  27. COLLECT System requirements:
  28.         MED#1 - Version 1.07 or DENTAL#1 - Version 1.04
  29.         MS-DOS 3.30 (or greater) (DOS 5.0 preferred)
  30.         * At this time DOS 6.0 is not recommended
  31.         640k of memory (required)
  32.         Monochrome (or color) monitor
  33.         (1) 5 1/4" floppy disk drive (for loading of software)
  34.         (1) hard disk drive (for program and data files)
  35.         (1) printer (any dot matrix printer)
  36.  
  37.         NO SPECIAL FORMS ARE REQUIRED. ALL REPORTS WILL BE
  38.         PRINTED ON 8 1/2" X 11" STANDARD STOCK PAPER.
  39.  
  40.         (Note  -  COLLECT  is a single user  system  and  is  not 
  41.         qualified for multi-user, or network, usage.)

  43. Files contained on your distribution disks:
  44. Disk             README.1ST    = Basic instructions.
  45.                  INSTCOLL.BAT  = COLLECT install routine
  46.                  INSTCOL1.EXE  = Compressed COLLECT.EXE in self
  47.                                  extracting format 
  48.                  INSTCOL2.EXE  = compressed user manual and
  49.                                  manual print file.

  52. Steps to follow for system installation:
  53. ---------------------------------------
  54. 1.  Make a backup of the COLLECT distribution disk and store  the 
  55. original in a save place.  Use the newly created backup disk  for 
  56. all following installation instructions.
  57.  
  58. 2. Check to insure that you have a 'CONFIG.SYS' file in your root 
  59. directory with the following MINIMUM values:
  60.  
  61.            FILES = 60 
  62.            BUFFERS = 9
  63.  
  64. If  you do not have a 'CONFIG.SYS' file, or it does  not  contain 
  65. these  minimum  values,  consult  your  DOS  manual  on  how   to 
  66. create/modify  your 'CONFIG.SYS' file. (Note - COLLECT  will  not 
  67. operate  properly, and may crash, if your 'CONFIG.SYS' file  does 
  68. not exist with these values. If you needed to create, or  modify, 
  69. your  'CONFIG.SYS'  file  be sure that you   reboot  your  system 
  70. before you continue. Your system only reads the values  contained 
  71. in your 'CONFIG.SYS' file at initial system boot.)
  72.  
  73. 3. Make your MED#1 or DENTAL#1 sub-directory your current default 
  74. sub-directory.  In most cases this can be done by entering:
  75.  
  76. For DENTAL#1:                C>CD\DENTAL1
  77.  
  78. For MED#1:                   C>CD\MED1
  79.  
  80. 4.  Insert  COLLECT distribution disk into drive  'A'.  Copy  the 
  81. contents  of  drive  'A'  into the  your  current  default   sub-
  82. directory by entering the following DOS command:
  83.  
  84.                 C>COPY A:*.*
  85.  
  86. Remove disk from drive 'A' upon completion.
  87.  
  88. 5.  Decompress  your  copy  of COLLECT.EXE  and  user  manual  by 
  89. entering the following command:
  90.  
  91.                 C>INSTCOLL <return>
  92.  
  93. This  will create a decompressed copy of COLLECT.EXE that can  be 
  94. executed  by your system, COLMANUL.BAT to print your user manual, 
  95. and COLLECT.TX1,TX2,TX3 'COLLECT' user manual.
  96.  
  97. 6. Print your user manual and read before going any further:
  98.                 a: turn on your printer
  99.                 b: enter C>COLMANUL  <return>
  100.  
  101.  
  102. ALL  COPIES  OF  COLLECT WILL INITIALLY  LOAD  AS  'UNREGISTERED' 
  103. HAVING  A 100 PATIENT LIMIT. THIS PATIENT LIMIT WILL  BE  REMOVED 
  104. UPON THE ENTRY OF A VALID 'USER REGISTRATION NUMBER'.  THIS 'USER 
  105. REGISTRATION  NUMBER' IS UNIQUE TO EACH USER AND IS  PROVIDED  TO 
  106. THE  USER  UPON RECEIPT OF A FULLY PAID AND PROPERLY  FILLED  OUT 
  107. REGISTRATION FORM.
  108.  
  109. REGISTERED USERS WILL RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING BENEFITS:
  110.         >FREE BUG REPLACEMENT DISKS;
  111.         >PRINTED USER MANUAL;
  112.         >CURRENT VERSION OF COLLECT:
  113.         >LOW COST PRODUCT UPGRADES;

  116. REGISTERING YOUR COPY OF COLLECT:
  117. ---------------------------------
  118.      After   you've  worked with the  un-registered   package  of 
  119. COLLECT,  and decide you want full access to the  system,  follow 
  120. these simple steps to register:
  121.  
  122.      1.  Enter the 'SYSTEM UTILITIES'
  123.      2.  Select 'USER REGISTRATION FORM'
  124.      3.  Fill out this registration form
  125.      4.  Send in registration form and required registration
  126.          fee to MEDshare, Inc.

  130. You will receive:
  131.      A. A REGISTRATION NUMBER  that will unlock you  from
  132.         the 100 patient limits of the system.
  133.      B. A phone number you can call for support (you will
  134.         be billed for this support).
  135.      C. A printed copy of the user's manual.
  136.      D. A copy of the newest version of COLLECT.
  137.      E. Newsletter informing you of other programs  that
  138.         complement COLLECT.

  146.            *** COMMON PROBLEMS AND THEIR SOLUTION ***
  147.            ******************************************
  148.  
  149. 1. INSUFFICIENT MEMORY: COLLECT operates totally within the  640K 
  150. limits  of your system. This area is also used by your  operating 
  151. system and other programs you may have been using. To see if  you 
  152. have sufficient memory to  load COLLECT  run  the  DOS   'CHKDSK' 
  153. routine.  You should have in excess of 512 K free  memory.  Next, 
  154. after you have loaded COLLECT press the 'F10' key when you are at 
  155. the DATE PROMPT on the COLLECT sign-n screen.  You  should   have 
  156. available  free memory of 100K. (NOTE: COLLECT REQUIRES UP TO  AN 
  157. ADDITIONAL 100K OF MEMORY FOR SEVERAL OF ITS FEATURES TO RUN.  IF 
  158. YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS 100K OF FREE MEMORY CHECK YOUR  'CONFIG.SYS' 
  159. AND  'AUTOEXEC.BAT'  FILES  TO SEE WHAT OTHER  PROGRAMS  YOU  ARE 
  160. USING.  THE  BEST  TEST  IS TO REMOVE ALL  BUT  THE  'FILES'  AND 
  161. 'BUFFER' COMMANDS FROM THESE FILES, REBOOT, LOAD COLLECT, AND SEE 
  162. HOW MUCH FREE MEMORY IS AVAILABLE. THEN ADD BACK IN THE  FEATURES 
  163. YOU WANT UNTIL YOU LOSE THE 100K REQUIREMENT.)

  165. 2. ERROR MESSAGES ENDING WITH A '(2)': This error is a result  of 
  166. COLLECT not being able to locate its data files.  This  error  is 
  167. normally  a result of COLLECT being installed on one  system  and 
  168. then  copied   to  another  system  and  to  a   different   disk   
  169. drive designation.   To   correct   this  problem   just   delete   
  170. the  'COLMVBLS.MEM' file then re-load COLLECT. You will be  taken 
  171. into the  system initialization cycle.

  173. 3. ERROR MESSAGES ENDING WITH A '(4)': This error is a result  of
  174. COLLECT not being able to open a file due to limits controlled by
  175. your   DOS   system.  This  is  corrected  by   correcting   your
  176. 'CONFIG.SYS'  file  to  have the minimum  'FILES'  and  'BUFFERS'
  177. commands  as required for system setup. After you have  corrected
  178. your 'CONFIG.SYS' file reboot your system - THIS IS THE ONLY TIME
  179. WHAT THESE PARAMETERS ARE READ.
  180.  
  181. (NOTE: COLLECT is always being improved. These improvements may or
  182. may  not result in a change in the version number of the COLLECT
  183. program.  MEDshare  reserves  the right  to  make  these  changes
  184. without notification to existing users. When a major  improvement
  185. has  been made all users will be notified. The charge  for  these
  186. improvements will be dependent upon the features provided and  in
  187. most  cases will be around $100.00. If an improvement  requires a
  188. file  modification  you  will be provided  a  program  that  will
  189. perform this modification for you.)
